Where's all the water going? Down your wash basin!!!
Posted: Tuesday, April 20, 2010 by Vijay inI know many of my friends that waste lots of water; They leave the tap running while they brush their teeth or shave or while they wash their hands. Most of them are not even aware of it, it is just a habit. I don't think they would do it if they knew the pains many of the world's poor have to go through just for getting water(drinking or otherwise). It is more an issue of lack of concern rather than carelessness.
Water is a scarcity and we all know it very well, yet we don't stop wasting it. We would probably, if we thought water resources have come to such a low that if we don't stop wasting immediately our survival is at doubt. Trust me when I say the situation is really that bad. People in cities might not really feel the effect yet but all in good time bro, all in good time.
If you haven't heard it already, it might come as a shock to know that many experts feel that the third world war will be over water. Yeah, all this race for nuclear weapons will be very trivial. Men will kill each other for water, men who are now too foolish to waste it.
There are lots of people out there doing all they can to bring awareness among the people. But they can't bring a change in the people's attitude, and attitude is everything. I hate to see most of their efforts go waste. People are so oblivious to this that they think they can't "compromise". Let me tell you something; if they continue like this, some day the world will have to compromise humanity to get back to harmony.
You might say how can my being careful change the big picture, why change my habit? Then I am sorry for you but nice choice. That is what most people who like to blame everyone else do. But in case you wish to differ, I just want to say that it IS a big deal, whatever you can do. Even if it is just among your group of friends that you spread this habit of saving water.
Stephen Hawking once asked an open question: "In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race sustain another 100 years?". There were lots of answers but none convincing enough...Hawking couldn't think of a real solution too...the only way he figured, was if we moved into outer space. Yes, we will have spoiled this place beyond repair, if we haven't already. And if we go on like this and somehow do move into outer space, I am scared for the rest of the universe too; the destructive machine that man is...
Our later generations will curse us for what we have done to this planet. After all, they are the ones that will bear the full effect, chances are we will be gone by then(many people bank on this and continue in their ways). But lets hope you just might reduce the cursing a bit. Every drop counts!!
